In partnership with the Gender and Development Resource Center (GADRC), the Indang Association of Person with Disability, Inc. (IAPWDI) conducted a seminar titled βCaring and How to Handle the Person with Down Syndromeβ on April 20, 2023, at the IAPWDI Office, Barangay IV, Indang, Cavite.
IAPWDI President Mr. Florian H. De Borja delivered the opening remarks, expressing his appreciation to all participants who attended the seminar.
IAPWDI member Ms. Soledad R. Ruedas served as the resource person, emphasizing the realities and misconceptions about Down syndrome and the medical intervention. She shared her journey with her daughter who has down syndrome.
Ms. Ruedas also delivered a poem titled “Welcome to Holland,” in which she reminisced her daughter’s childhood years. She recounted her daughterβs story and shared her experiences and the challenges she encountered in raising her daughter until she started studying.
As she conveyed her love for her daughter, she highlighted the necessity of guidance and support for a person with down syndrome, emphasizing that they have emotions and sentiments.
Mr. De Borja expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the speaker in this seminar.
